What Are AODD Pumps?
Air Operated Diaphragm (AOD) Pumps or Pneumatic Diaphragm Pumps (AODD Pumps) are types of positive displacement pumps that are driven by compressed air to cause a pumping action via operational use of two flexible diaphragms. Working Principle of AODD Pumps:

As the pressure shifts the air forces one of the diaphragm to expel fluid out of one chamber and the other diaphragm ones to form a suction to attract the fluid. This back and forth motion enables indefinite shifting of fluids without use of mechanical seals, which makes such a system safer and less prone to leaking.
- Activation of Air Distribution System: The flow of compressed air through the air distribution system causes the pump to start its pumping cycle. This directs the flow of air to the two diaphragms.
- Movement of the Diaphragm: The air is caused to move to the back of the left diaphragm, which expels it outwards. Meanwhile, the shaft drives the right diaphragm inwards.
- Suction Stroke (Right Diaphragm): Right diaphragm when pushed inwards sucks in the chamber. This pulls water in through the right inlet check valve.
- Discharge Stroke (Left Diaphragm): Left diaphragm expels the fluid in its liquid chamber. The fluid is forced out of the pump through the left discharge check valve that is lifted by the pressure.
- Reverse of Air Flow: After the stroke is completed then air distribution system reverses airflow to the right diaphragm and initiates second phase of operations.
- Suction (Left) & Discharge (Right): At this stage the right diaphragm is now pushed outwards to force the fluid out and the left diaphragm will be pushed inwards to bring new fluid in.
- Continuous Cycling: This back and forth diaphragm movement is self-renewing, which makes it an automatic pumping effect. The cycle of the machine is as high as 400 strokes per minute.
